Tenderloin Technology Lab

The Tenderloin Technology Lab provides residents of the Tenderloin and other nonprofits with important technology and vocational skills that increase opportunities for employment, access to essential community resources, and connections with family and friends.

Established in 2008, the Tenderloin Technology Lab (TTL) formed as a partnership between St. Anthony Foundation and San Francisco Network Ministries to promote technology training and access to residents of the Tenderloin. 

The TTL is a state-of-the-art technology training center with 38 computer work-stations; a wide range of basic, intermediate, and advanced computer classes; one-on-one vocational counseling and technology training; computer repair sessions, and other special events.

With tax season underway, this is an perfect time to put our minds towards asset development and financial literacy. This week we're excited to share one of our favorite resources: 30-Second Trainings from the DPN Technical Assistance Program. You only need 30 seconds to learn new information and resource that can help you and your customers gain strategies about financial stability.

It's so simple: Just go to the Asset Development 30-Second Training page and scroll down to presentations 11-20 tailored for One-Stop staff, service providers, and disability partners. This series was created by Miranda Kennedy, Laura Gleneck and DJ Diamond of the DPN Technical Assistance team, NDI Consulting, Inc., and Kevin Nickerson, DPN, NY State.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN) Webcasts

Gather your One Stop staff together in a room for live, in-service training from the experts in job accommodation: The Job Accommodation Network. Educate yourself, management, and other employees on disability etiquette, assistive technologies, management techniques, and the latest on accommodations and the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). From October 2010 to August 2011, JAN offers insightful professional development opportunities for all segments of the One Stop system.

All Webcasts begin at 2 pm Eastern (11:00AM Pacific) and are 1 hour. You must register to attend. One registration is equivalent to one login. Worried that your computer won't be able to handle the Webcast? JAN offers an overview of computer requirements needed to participate in the Webcasts.

Guest expert, Lisa Stern, Consultant to The Department of Labor, America's Heroes at Work Initiative and Meg Krause, American's Heroes at Work Initiative will share information on how to best:

1. Separate FACT from FICTION regarding TBI and PTSD.
2. Dispel some of the frequent myths regarding TBI and/or PTSD in the workplace.
3. Present insightful information on "triggers".
4. Offer strategies for creating a welcoming and productive environment for veterans entering (or re-entering) the civilian workforce..

LEGACY Training #3: Substance

The LEGACY Disability Awareness Training Series
The series includes 3 in-person trainings and 8 online lessons. Once complete, participants will be certified as Disability Service Specialists. Each One Stop is required to have at least one person go through the full training series, start to finish. Triage Specialists are also required to attend.

Remember to complete online lesson L107 (Substance Dependence) prior to Nov. 20th.

Quarterly Training Series Launches

We're happy to confirm that our quarterly trainings will begin with a workshop on "WIA Section 188, Non-discrimination and Equal Opportunity Requirements."

We can assure this legal issues workshop won't bore you with legalese. It will equip you with important skills and give staff a chance to think through practical examples. Trainer Kim Lucero of the Employment Training Network (Capacity Building Unit) is dynamic and experienced in working with One Stops around the state.

Staff will have two chances to participate: June 30 or July 1, 2009
The training will run 10am-3pm each day.
